Why "The Family"?
For generations, LGBTQ+ people have asked each other a quiet question: "Are you family?" It meant: are you one of us, and are you safe? This site is built around that same idea.
Finding a therapist is hard. Finding one who understands you, your partner, or your kid, and won't make you explain or defend who you are, can be much harder. The Family is a free place to find affirming therapists and trusted LGBTQ+ resources, whatever your family looks like.
How Listings Work
- Listing is free for therapists, and searching is free for everyone.
- We review every application and check each therapist's license before it goes live.
- Therapists confirm their practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and that they don't offer conversion therapy.
- We don't sell ads, rankings, or your information.
Who's Behind It
The Family was started by Dr. Corinne Votaw, an intersex licensed psychologist and the author of Gender Centered. Dr. Votaw is also listed in the directory, alongside other therapists.
